I first met Pearl when she and Warren came to San Francisco in the late 1960s to see their son, who was stationed here in the Navy. Linda and I became close friends, so I had many more occasions to interact with Pearl. She opened her home to me, as did Linda, and I had many delightful visits with them and treasure many warm memories; Chief among which is a trip the three of us took through the Brandywine river valley one fall.
Pearl was an incredible woman. Strong and steady, she was a force of nature and the backbone of her family. She loved to cook and made the best eggplant Parmesan ever. "Mom's" meatloaf was the epitome of comfort food. She always said the main ingredient in her meals was love. I still have her handwritten recipes for both.
I found her always to be a kind and caring woman who was generous almost to a fault. She enjoyed life to the fullest and shared her joy with others. She had a deliciously wicked sense of humor that I loved. The joy of her life was her family. She could not do enough for them, nor they for her. Pearl always treated me as if I were part of the Pursley clan, a high honor for sure.
And one which I prize to this day.
The memory of Pearl will always bring a smile to my heart, which now is aching over the passing of this magnificent woman. While I grieve, I can only imagine the depth of grief Linda, Glenn and Ken are feeling at this moment over the loss of their mother.
Vaya con Dios, dear Pearl. My heartfelt sympathy to your family, and my condolences to them and to your friends.
With love,
Lys Wren

Thinking of everyone who is remembering Pearl today
and will attend her funeral tomorrow.
This strong-willed woman lived a long, simple life - and did it her way.
Her love and admiration for her son was impressive to witness.
Apologies for not being able to join you - but am not able to travel in
from France right now due to medical reasons.
May her soul rest in peace.
With sincere condolences,
Dominique Steffens
